William B. Zuti, Radford University Professor of Exercise, Sport and Health Education, has been named Associate Dean of the university’s College of Education and Human Development.
Zuti joined the RU faculty in 1989 and most recently served as coordinator of the commercial and corporate fitness program in the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Education. Before coming to RU, Zuti worked as national director of health enhancement programs for YMCAs of the U.S.A., as wellness director for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and as director of corporate fitness for PepsiCo, Inc. He also taught in Warren, Ohio, public schools, at Kent State University and at Kansas State University. He has conducted research, published articles and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of health, physical education, health promotion and wellness, exercise physiology, commercial fitness, leadership, administration and technology. He earned master’s and doctoral degrees in exercise physiology from Kent State University and a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock State University. “Bill brings a wealth of leadership experience in the academic arena and in the private sector,” said College of Education and Human Development Dean Patricia Shoemaker. “I am especially pleased that Bill comes from the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Education and has a long-standing relationship with the field of counselor education — by marriage — which helps ‘round out’ our leadership team's expertise. As Bill says, ‘The human body is not made for standing around — it is made to move,’ and he has already started moving on a series of projects for the College.” Zuti’s wife, Kathryn Jordan, teaches in the college’s Department of Counselor Education and is currently on sabbatical from her position as director of RU’s Center for Experiential Learning and Career Development. “There is no question,” said Zuti, “that the students I’ve had at Radford University are the greatest students I’ve had anywhere.” He cites his deep respect for Shoemaker as the only reason he moved into administration and the “positive energy” of the college’s faculty as an additional attraction of the position. Referring to popular books offering advice on going “from good to great,” Zuti said the College of Education and Human Development is “already at great. Our goal is to move from great to greater to greatest.” The RU College of Education and Human Development offers 27 undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership, the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Education and the Department of Counselor Education.
