During the August 13 meeting of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, Montgomery County Code Chapter 6, Article IV, Division 2, entitled County Vehicle License was amended effective August 14, 2007. County decals will no longer be issued or required for display on vehicles and a Motor Vehicle License Fee will be assessed each calendar year.
County Motor Vehicle License fees will be due December 5. The fee will be added onto the Personal Property bills of Montgomery County residents (due December 5). All Personal Property taxes and Motor Vehicle License fees must be paid in full. A $20 Motor Vehicle License fee will be charged on automobiles, trucks, buses, well-drilling machinery, auto wagons, motorcycles and antique cars. A $50 Motor Vehicle License Fee will be charged on a junk car. Disabled Veterans There shall be no Motor Vehicle License fee for any one motor vehicle owned and used personally by any veteran who holds a current state motor vehicle registration card establishing that he or she has received a disabled veteran’s exemption from the Department and has been issued a disabled veteran’s motor vehicle license plate.
Rescue Squad/Fire Department Volunteers One free County Motor Vehicle License shall be issued to members of volunteer rescue squads and volunteer fire departments. These Motor Vehicle Licenses can only be obtained by the Rescue Squad Captain or Fire Department Chief. National Guard Members A Motor Vehicle License fee for National Guard members can cost no more than the National Guard member pays for the state license plates. To receive the reduced Motor Vehicle License fee rate the National Guard member must present a Virginia state registration showing he/she is a National Guard member, and a statement of the amount paid for the state license plate. Farm Use Vehicles The Motor Vehicle License fee is not charged on vehicles used for seasonal transportation of farm produce and livestock providing the motor vehicle is registered to the owner or lessee of a farm and used by him/her on a seasonal basis in transporting farm produce and livestock along the public highways for a distance of no more than 20 miles to a storage house, packing plant or market.
