Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Blacksburg Is Calling All Artists PDF Print E-mail

Local and regional artists are invited to submit work for the Town of Blacksburg 2008 Calendar, which will celebrate the invaluable services of public safety officials in our town (Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Blacksburg Police.)

 

This is a wonderful opportunity to honor the staff and volunteers who daily make the commitment to preserve Blacksburg’s health, safety, and welfare. The calendar is distributed to over 5000 citizens and visitors each year, making your work accessible to a wide audience. Artists are invited to submit up to three samples of work for consideration.

Work should reflect the daily contributions of the public safety workers and their community impact. We ask that submissions be suitable for all viewing audiences.
 
How to Apply

All artists ages 18 and older are eligible to submit work. All media are welcome as submitted images of work will be used as is for the calendar. Please call or email your intent to submit as soon as possible, at 558-0730 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Submissions must include:
1. A typed or handwritten submission form.
2. Up to three works of art. Works submitted as high resolution digital files on CD must be 300 dpi in jpeg or tiff format to be viewed on any computer. Artists may also submit high quality slides. Slides will be scanned for use in the calendar.
3. All submissions must be clearly labeled with:
o Entry Number
o The artist’s name as it will appear in the calendar
o Title
o Date
o Dimensions
o Medium
o Indication of the top of the work.
4. A self-addressed stamped envelope so slides and CDs may be returned to the artist.
5. A short artist's bio to be included with the work in the calendar.

Additional Guidelines
Each submission will be considered individually for inclusion in the calendar. The Community Relations Office will contact the artist of a selected work if additional views or information are needed. Notification of acceptance will be sent Monday, October 22, 2007. Submissions not selected for the calendar will also be returned at this time.
