The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into a bomb threat that closed the Fairlawn Wal-Mart for about two hours Tuesday afternoon.
According to Sheriff Jim Davis, an unknown person called the Woodforest National Bank, which is located inside Wal-Mart, and reported the bomb. Local law enforcement agencies were holding a K-9 training in the area and were able to immediately respond to call with dogs. Sheriff Davis said the dogs and officers searched the building and they did not find anything suspicious. The store was re-opened about 90 minutes later. Davis would not release any details surrounding the call. Just an hour earlier, an unknown person had also called in a bomb threat to the Woodforest National Bank inside the Salem Wal-Mart store, causing that location to be evacuated as well. In that situation, the caller demanded that money be wired by Western Union to an address, which was not in the Roanoke area. If the money were not wired to the account, a bomb would be detonated. A search of the Salem store also turned up nothing suspicious. Both the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and the Salem Police Department are continuing their investigations. It’s unknown at this time if the two incidents are related.
