A large crowd turned out on a beautiful, but hot, Saturday for the annual Montgomery County Heritage Day festival held on the lawn of the Montgomery Museum in Christiansburg.
Those attending yesterday’s events were treated from live entertainment from the likes of Storytelling by Kimberly Weitkamp, music from Olen Gardner & Friends, Jack Hinshelwood & Family and Stacy Hobbs, Harp Guitarist. “We have been very pleased with the crowd today,” said Rhonda Hale, Executive Director of the Montgomery Museum. “This event has grown each year from our crowds to the number of exhibitors.” In addition to plenty of music, there were plenty of exhibits from our past heritage including antique vehicles, horse and buggy rides, war re-enactors, along with demonstrations of spinning, basket weaving, doll making and knitting. And of course, no festival as this time of the year would be complete without a few politicians turning out to shake hands and kiss babies. One of the biggest highlights, which saw people lining up early for, was for the homemade brown beans and cornbread.
