Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Jacksonville Center Announces Upcoming Classes PDF Print E-mail

There is space for a few more students in the following classes at Jacksonville Center.  

Pots That Pour Emily Reason, August 24 – 26, This class will focus on the throwing of forms and parts to create elegant and functional pouring vessels.  We will investigate various methods of lid, spout and handle construction.  Aesthetics will be a concern as the class explores principles of visual balance and interest.  Skill level, intermediate – advanced.

 

Learn to be a Blacksmith David Tucciarone, August 24 – 26, Students will learn the techniques of making and keeping a forge fire, hammer skills, drawing out, upsetting, cutting, punching, riveting and forge welding steel.

 

Precious Metal Clay and Glass Ed & Martha Biggar August 31- September 2. First day will be working with Ed to learn kiln forming on a very small scale for cabochons.  PMC (Precious Metal Clay) will then be introduced and included with those cabs to create pendants charms and earrings.  Patina and other finishing techniques will be discussed.

 

Raku Firing and Wheel Throwing Tracy Dotson, September 3-7, Classes will cover Raku demonstrations as well as wheel throwing practices including tricks in clay and glazing.

The Jacksonville Center is located on Route 8, one-half mile south of the only stoplight in Floyd, VA.  The Center’s hours are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm; Saturday,10am-5pm; and Sunday, 12-5pm.
