Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Blacksburg Transit Making Several Route Changes And Additions PDF Print E-mail

Starting this Sunday, Blacksburg Transit will be making several changes to its routes.

 

 

 

2007 Route & Schedule Changes: Effective August 19, 2007

 
  • NEW ROUTE: Corporate Research Center Service
 
    • Replacing the Ramble Road/Hospital route, the new CRC Shuttle circulates exclusively between central campus and Virginia Tech’s Corporate Research Center during regular service weekdays. This shuttle circulates every 15 minutes from 7:15am to 6:30pm and every 30 minutes from 6:30pm to 9:45pm. This route only operates on weekdays during regular service between the hours of 7:15am and 10:00pm. During Break Service, this route extends to cover Montgomery Regional Hospital, Industrial Park Drive, Professional Park Drive, and far South Main Street. 
   
    • This new route operates on a 15 minute frequency between 7:00am and 6:45pm during Regular Service weekdays. The route services Giles Road, Patrick Henry Drive, Seneca Drive and Progress Street. On and off-campus time checks are located at Torgersen Hall and Patrick Henry Drive (next to Custom Catering) respectively. 
 
  • CHANGED: Main Street Route & On Campus Time Check
 
    • During Regular Service, the Main Street route has been extended to cover Industrial Park Drive, Professional Park Drive, and far South Main Street between the hours of 7:00am and 6:45pm. This route does not service Giles Road, Patrick Henry Drive, or Seneca Drive during this time. Destination signs will reflect the following:
 
      • Regular Weekdays: 7:00am-6:45pm 
      • Northbound: Main Street Northbound
      • Southbound: Main Street Southbound via Professional Park
      • All other times
        • Northbound: Main Street Northbound via Patrick Henry
        • Southbound: Main Street Southbound
    • The on-campus time check for the Main Street Northbound bus is located at Squires Westbound on Alumni Mall. 
 
  • CHANGED: Patrick Henry Place Bus Stop Moved
 
    • The bus stop located near Patrick Henry Place Condominiums on Patrick Henry Drive has been moved up to Main Street across from Seven-Eleven. 
 
  • CHANGED: Two Town Trolley Services Hospital during Regular Service
 
    • The hourly Blacksburg Two Town Trolley now services Montgomery Regional Hospital during Regular Service weekdays between 12:15pm and 6:15pm. The new Hospital Connecter provides limited morning service between Montgomery Regional Hospital and Burruss Hall during Regular Service weekdays. 
   
    • Blacksburg Transit is no longer fare free on Virginia Tech home football gamedays. Beginning three hours prior to kickoff passengers without valid Virginia Tech Hokie Passports are subject to a $2.00 fare per rider which lasts until halftime. This fare affects buses, all monthly pass holders, all home gameday football shuttles, all routes, all transfers, all destinations and all parking area’s regardless of trip length. 
 
  • CHANGED: Hethwood to Downtown via Alumni Mall
 
    • Beginning at 10pm on Regular Service Fridays and Saturdays, buses coming from Hethwood enter campus via Alumni Mall to assist those passengers wishing to get off near downtown.  
 
  • CHANGED: Smart Way Bus Moved to Squires Eastbound
 
    • Valley Metro’s Smart Way Bus now time checks directly in front of Squires Student Center on Alumni Mall.
