Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Price's Fork Community Fair Runs Today And Saturday PDF Print E-mail

Traffic along Price’s Fork Road will be heavier than usual later this afternoon and all day on Saturday as the crowd will be heading to the 75th annual Prices Fork Community Fair. 

 

 

The fair, which is being sponsored by Price’s Fork Grange, is held at Grange Hall, which is located across the street from Price’s Fork Elementary School.

  

The exhibit hall will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, with farm and garden exhibits, candy and baked goods, canned foods, flowers, art, and handicrafts. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories. Those with exhibits should bring them to Grange Hall between 8 a.m. and noon today

  

This evening’s program will include a performance at 6:30 p.m. by Dancer’s Dreams and at 7 p.m. the High Grass Band will take to the stage.

  

Things will get underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the pet show. The judges will pick the best longhaired and shorthaired dog; best longhaired and shorthaired puppy; best longhaired, Siamese and alley cat; best longhaired and shorthaired kitten; and best small and large pets other than dogs and cats.

  

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, the annual baby contest will take place. You need to register your baby at the Grange Booth prior to the event. The contest is limited to boys and girls two years of age and younger.



 

Dancer’s Dreams will take the stage again at 4:30 p.m. and Dean Trimble and Friends will perform at 6:30 p.m.

 

 

Food will be sold on the grounds by the Price’s Fork Grange and Price’s Fork United Methodist Church and special 75th anniversary T-shirts will also be on sale at the fair. Local artist, Leslie Roberts Gregg, did the shirt design. The shirts are $10 each for adult sizes small, medium, large and extra large, and $12 for size 2X. The shirts come in red, royal blue and black, and will be on sale at the Grange booth throughout the fair.

 

 

Registration for those with birthdays in August will be in the Grange Hall, and drawings for those with August birthdays and door prizes will be conducted periodically during the evening entertainment. Door prize and birthday winners must be present to win.


 
A raffle will also be held with prizes ranging from two admission tickets to Dollywood to a Virginia Tech throw. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Tickets are available before the fair from any fair committee member or during the fair at the Grange booth.

 

Two of the biggest happenings of the fair will take place at 9 p.m. with the crowning of Little Miss Price’s Fork and Little Mr. Price’s Fork. 


 

No sponsors are necessary for contestants. Registration forms will be available at the Grange Hall booth and they are to be turned in there along with a current photo on a covered jar. The age limit for contestants is of pre-school through grade five as of the 2006-2007 school year. Contestants must have been students at Price’s Fork Elementary School or Kipps Elementary School for the 2006-2007 school year. Previous winners are not eligible to enter.

 

 

This year’s fair will conclude at 9:30 p.m. with a fireworks display.
