The Q99 “Pack the Bus” program made a stop outside the Christiansburg Wal-Mart Wednesday and there were plenty of adults, and even some youngsters, ready to pack the buses full of school supplies.
There were tons of items including the likes of paper, notebooks, pencils, Elmer’s glue, erasers and even boxes upon boxes of tissues being placed on the busses from Montgomery County and Floyd County school districts. “Everything we get will be divided equally amongst of the schools in Montgomery County,” said Anita Johnston, public information officer for Montgomery County Schools. “These supplies will be given to the principals because they know what students in their respective schools are in need of these items and they will distribute them to the students.” While the majority of shoppers were loading up the bus from Montgomery County, the Floyd County bus was also getting its seats packed as well. “We go into all the different schools districts with this program to help all the kids get an equal start,” said Q99’s Christina Lee. “We were at the Fairlawn Wal-Mart yesterday [Tuesday] and we had a great turn out of support for the Radford City and Pulaski County Schools. We are also very pleased with how things are going here today in Christiansburg.” The Q99 “Pack the Bus” program will conclude its 2007 route on Friday when they make the last of their 14 stops at the Pearisburg Wal-Mart to help benefit the schools in Giles County from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Photos: (Top left) Montgomery County School Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Anderon (left) and Anita Johnston, PIO for MCPS help load the bus.
