AGRICULTURAL AND FORESTAL DISTRICT (AFD) ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The AFD Advisory Committee reviews all landowner applications to the County for the creation of new AFD’s, as well as additions and renewals of existing AFD’s. During its review, the Advisory Committee determines that a) the landowner has a conservation plan or forestry management plan to guide his/her stewardship of the land; and b) the best management practices and measures are being carried out. Applicants must be a landowner within the County and must be engaged in agricultural or forestall production. Appointments are made at-large and terms are unlimited. Meetings are held as needed. There is one (1) vacancy on this committee.   

OFFICE ON YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD

The Office on Youth Advisory Board examines youth delinquency issues and fosters positive youth development through coordination with various community agencies. Board members work with the Office on Youth in identifying youth related services needed in the County. Programs include juvenile community services, home confinement, and home electronic monitoring for court-involved youth. Meetings are held the second Thursday of every other month from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Health and Human Services Building in Christiansburg. Appointments are made at-large and are for three (3) years. There are two (2) vacancies on this board.  

PARKS AND RECREATION

Serves as an advisory board to the Parks and Recreation Department in developing leisure-time activities and programs for residents of all ages in Montgomery County. Meetings are held the 1^st Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Montgomery County Government Center in Christiansburg. Appointment is for 3 years. There is one (1) vacancy on this commission to fill an unexpired term that ends on March 12, 2010. The Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants from District B.  

SOCIAL SERVICES BOARD

An administrative board that works cooperatively with the State Board providing financial assistance programs to individuals and otherwise assists and protects individuals who are unable to care for themselves. Meetings are held the 3^rd Thursday of every month at 9:00 a.m. at the Health and Human Services Building in Christiansburg. Appointments are made at-large and are for four (4) years. There is one (1) vacancy on this board.
