Tech Move-In To Affect Campus Travel PDF Print E-mail
Written by EverythingNRV
Wednesday, 15 August 2007

From August 15-18 (Wednesday-Saturday), almost 9,000 students and their families will be arriving at Virginia Tech to check into the residence halls. This will cause a significant change in parking and traffic patterns on campus.

During the four days of check-in, streets and parking lots closest to the residence halls will be designated as "30 minute loading" and reserved for resident student move-in. These areas include the following parking lots: Shultz, Owens, Dietrick, Coliseum, Hutcheson (Ag-Quad), Tennis Court (on Washington St) and Engel lots, and the following streets: Old Turner, Kent, Washington Street, and Ag-Quad Lane and the south side of the Drillfield (both sides) from Sandy Hall up to the Library. Please do not park in these areas and remember the south side of the Drillfield will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC except for students that are unloading. Additionally; all cars must be removed from Washington Street, Coliseum Lot, and Kent Street by 10:00 p.m. each night of the four days of Move-In (Aug 15-18).

The north-side of the DrillField (Burruss Hall side) will be closed to traffic on Sunday; August 19 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the Memorial Dedication. All cars must be removed from the north-side of the Drillfield by 10:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18 in preparation for the dedication.

ALL vehicles parked in these areas, other than for the purpose of unloading, will have to be ticketed in order to provide space for the move-in process.

Washington Street will become a one-way road. Traffic on Washington Street will be allowed to move from west to east (from the Coliseum toward Kent Street and Downtown Blacksburg). We expect very (very) slow moving traffic along this corridor and strongly recommend avoiding Washington Street during these days (August 15-18).

Faculty and staff members should park in areas not designated for "30 minute loading." We recommend using C/G section of the Litton-Reaves Lot (located behind Litton-Reaves Hall, off Washington Street) and/or Perry Street Lot/Prices Fork Lot (located off Prices Fork Road). A map of the parking lots is at www.parking.vt.edu.

Parking Permit

Remember: Old F/S permits expire on August 17, 2007. To avoid receiving a ticket, begin displaying a new permit no later than August 27. Students must display a permit when parking in a student lot by August 27. Students parking in F/S lots will be ticketed.

Permits can be purchased at the Parking Services Office (click on the "EZ Permit link), located at 455 Tech Center Drive from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
