Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Provost Selected for RU PDF Print E-mail

Dr. Wilbur W. Stanton has been appointed as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Radford University effective July 1, 2007.

 

“Dr. Stanton has a comprehensive knowledge of Radford University and is highly respected by our faculty,” said President Penelope W. Kyle. “He has a keen intelligence, clarity of thought and a good work ethic. He has established strong working relationships with the board, senior administration and faculty leadership and brings stability to the important office of Provost.”

“I would like to commend the search committee on a job well done,” Kyle added. “Dr. Marilyn Meador, chair of the committee, and the entire membership did an outstanding job of conducting a thorough and thoughtful search.”

As RU’s chief academic officer, the Provost’s responsibilities include leadership, policy formulation, strategic planning and management of RU’s largest and most integral division.

“I am delighted to have been appointed to the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs,” Stanton said. “With a dynamic President, a supportive Board, and talented and dedicated faculty and staff, our potential is unlimited.”

Stanton has served in the position on an interim basis since February.

Stanton first came to RU in 1994 as Dean of the College of Graduate and Extended Education. He subsequently served as Founding Dean of the College of Information Science and Technology, Associate Vice President for Academic Administration, and Senior Vice Provost.

Prior to coming to Radford, Stanton was a member of the faculty at Old Dominion, Auburn, Oklahoma State and Georgia State universities, and worked in private industry as a business consultant.

He earned his bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees and his Ph.D. from Georgia State University.

Dr. Meador, Professor of Music, was joined on the search committee by nine faculty members, three members of the Board of Visitors, two students, one administrative/professional faculty member, and one staff member.

Faculty members on the committee included: Dr. Donna Boyd, College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Elizabeth Dore, College of Education and Human Development; Dr. Matt Franck, College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Kay Jordan, College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. James Lollar, College of Business and Economics; Dr. Angela Mickle, College of Education and Human Development; Dr. Ned Okie, College of Information Science and Technology; Dr. Don Samson, College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Mark Wagstaff, Waldron College of Health and Human Services.

Bob Blake, R.J. Kirk and Dr. Cora Salzberg represented the Board of Visitors; Mr. Robert Lataille represented the undergraduate students and Ms. Lauren Harris represented graduate students; Dr. Joe Scartelli, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, represents the administrative/professional faculty; and Ms. Carlotta Lewis, accounting support supervisor, served as the staff representative.
