4th of July Celebrations PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Grimes
Thursday, 05 July 2007
The crowd started mingling in around 5 p.m. By 9 p.m., the Christiansburg High School Football Stadium and the adjacent area was full, as more than 3,000 people turned out Wednesday night for the 9th Annual Fourth of July Celebration.

There was plenty of food, activities for the children, music, lots of fellowship and a course, a fireworks display that left the crowd cheering, to keep crowd occupied.

While the parents listened to the music from Don and the Deltones, mingled and talked with their neighbors, the children were entertained by a rock climbing wall, several moonwalks, face painting, as well as the mascot and fire safety trailer from Christiansburg Fire Department.

Officials with the Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department, which sponsored the event, were happy about the good turnout.

The fourth of July parade in Blacksburg brought out scores of people. Beautifully colored floats rolled down Main Street and left spectators in awe.

In Radford, many people filled Bissett Park. Vendors supplied many 4th of July favorites such as hotdogs, hamburgers and the ever-infamous funnel cake. There were plenty of activities to occupy the children - as well as those who are still children at heart. Whether you climbed the rock wall, jumped in the inflated room or just took a stroll around the park, the feel of Independence Day was all around.

The fireworks that took place after dark were observed by many; not only those who were in the park. Cars were sitting in front of Radford High school, at the library, in Kroger parking lot ... anywhere they could get a view of the spectacular show. And, it was just that.

Hawking is one of the world's leading theoretical physicists, and his work in the field of general relativity provided mathematical support for the big bang theory of the origin of the universe. What old bet did Hawking loose to fellow scholars in 2004?
