Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Meet The Artist Night To Be Held In Floyd PDF Print E-mail

Floyd, VA. - A “Meet the Artists” reception will be held on Saturday, August 18, 6-8 p.m. for the “Fifth Annual New Work” exhibit in the Hayloft Gallery at The Jacksonville Center.  Fifty-eight artists from Floyd and the surrounding area are exhibiting.

The artists are Robert Abraham, Jayn Avery, Joanne Wallin Bell, William Bell, Michael Brunette, Ernest Bryant, Kim Carroll, Lee Chichester, Marie Collier, Laurelsong Cook, Katherine DeVaughn, Donna Douglas, Camelia Elliott, Elizabeth Garthly, Lora Leigh Giessler, Barb Gillespie, Karen Gimbel, Eugene Gourley, Vanessa York Gourley, Art Haase, Jane Haddad, Dianna B. Hale, Patricia L. Haluska, Susan E. Hensley, Rita K. Jefferson, Donna R. Johnson, Christopher Jones, Preston Link, Louis Scott Lovitt, Ward Lowrance, Glenda K. McAlexander, Martha Jane McDowell, Gail H. McKee, Larry D. Mitchell, Catherine Pauley, Patricia Placona, Jenna Pynn, Rebecca H. Rader, Dennis W. Ross, Suzie Ross, Linda Russo, Karen Sewell, Helen A. The Center will sponsor a “People’s Choice” award of $50, with gallery visitors invited to cast ballots for their favorite work during the exhibit.  The exhibit will be in place through Saturday, September 22.
