Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

The upcoming “Fifth Annual Floyd and Regional Artists” exhibit at the Hayloft Gallery in The Jacksonville Center for the Arts will open on Friday, August 3 and run until Saturday, September 22.

New work and new artists have been the hallmark of this annual exhibit honoring the growth of the Jacksonville Center.  

“Participation and support for the Jacksonville Center now comes from the entire region surrounding Floyd, said Jayn Avery, the Center’s Gallery Committee chairperson.  “We are now including artists from the surrounding area in our traditionally Floyd artists exhibit.”  Fifty-five artists are exhibiting.

The “Meet the Artist” opening reception will be held at the Jacksonville Center on Saturday, August 18, 6-8 p.m.  The Center will sponsor a “People’s Choice” award of $50, with gallery visitors invited to cast ballots for their favorite work during the exhibit.
