The State of Virginia has mandated that October 9th will be the last day to register for persons wishing to vote in the November General Elections. Virginia law requires that in order to be qualified to register to vote in the General Election you must be a citizen of the United States, be eighteen years of age on or before the General Election, have domicile and a place of abode in the county you are registering in and that you be registered in the precinct in which you reside. Identification Will Be Required When You Vote November 6, 2007. Acceptable forms of ID are: a voter registration card, social security card, valid VA driver's license, government ID or an employer photo ID. You must not be able to claim the right to vote in any other state. You must not be declared mentally incompetent by a court of law. If you have been convicted of a felony, your right to vote must be restored. Voters may obtain a form to register by mail by visiting Persons who register to vote by mail must present one of the following forms of identification: a current and valid photo identification; a current utility bill, a bank statement, a government check or paycheck, or other government document. Those choosing to register in person can do so at the following locations in the New River Valley: Pulaski County Floyd County Montgomery County Giles County In addition to the regular hours, each registrar's office will be open the two Saturdays prior to the General Election and one Saturday prior to any Primary or Special Election for the purpose of Absentee Voting.
