A large crowd turned out Saturday for the 3rd Annual Taste of Floyd Slow Food event held on the grounds of the Harvest Moon Food Store in Floyd.
The event, which was sponsored by the Blue Ridge Convivium of Slow Food USA, allowed those attending to sample locally produced foods and products by small independent businesses in and Floyd County. “This event gives people a chance to sample some of the many home-grown products,” said Margie Reddick, owner of the Harvest Moon Food Store. “ We have over 20 vendors here this year and it allows for the public to interact with our local producers and vice-versa.” Added to this year’s event, which attracted about 500 patrons in 2006, was a Food and Wine Garden where you could purchase food and drinks and enjoy music with sit-down dining. “This has been a good event for us,” said Jim Politis of Brush Creek Farm in Riner. “A lot of people have stopped by to learn more about American Buffalo meat,” Politis and his wife, Jan, were telling the crowd about the benefits of American Buffalo Meat and were giving away samples of Buffalo Jerky. “The weather was very good to us today and judging by the crowd thus far, we should exceed last year’s totals,” added Reddick.
