A beautiful, but cool Saturday, provided the backdrop as a large crowd turned out for the 34th annual Wilderness Trail Festival in Downtown Christiansburg.
There were plenty of activities going on to please the young and the young at heart. The children had fun riding ponies, riding the train or bouncing around in the moonwalks. While the children played, their parents took in one of more than 130 vendors who were on hand selling everything from candles to jewelry. “I never seen so much in one little area,” said Phyllis Mays. “We come here every year.” Of course, no festival would be complete without plenty of food and politicians. “This is the best turkey leg around,” said Tim Cromer, head football coach at Christiansburg High School, as he was chomping down on the big leg like there was no tomorrow. People could be seen lining the sidewalks eating everything from BBQ to french fries to kettle corn. “It’s hard to pick what I want to eat,” said Michael Johannes. “There are just too many choices.” There was also plenty of entertainment throughout the day from dancers to Tackwon-do. There was even a pizza-eating contest to keep everyone amused as to just how much one person can eat in a matter of minutes.
