Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Christiansburg's Wilderness Trail Festival Is Today PDF Print E-mail

A record-breaking crowd is expected at the 34th annual Wilderness Trail Festival, which takes place today in downtown Christiansburg.

The event, which is being sponsored by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. on West Main Street from the Burger King drive-thru to town square, as well as Hickok Street from College Street to First Street.

Vendors will be selling homemade arts and crafts from jewelry to home decorations, furniture, quilts and a variety of other things. Plus there will be plenty of food to please just about everyone’s appetite.

“We will have over 130 vendors this year,” said Shane Adams, Executive Director of the Montgomery Chamber Of Commerce. “We have more vendors this year compared to year’s past. We are growing each year.”

Children activities will be held at Town Square and will features games, carnival rides, pony rides, plus the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Police Department and Fire Department will be on hand to show off their vehicles.

“We have enhanced our children’s area to give them more activities to take part in,” added Adams.

The Blue Ridge Model A’s will also be on hand this year and they will be located in the back parking lot of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church.

There will be plenty of entertainment at the SunTrust Bank Main Stage, located in the parking lot of the corner of South Hickok and West Main Street. The lineup of entertainment includes:

9:00-10:00 a.m. Dancer's Dream Performing Arts Academy

10:00-10:30 The CHS Choir Group 'Verdict'

10:30-11:15 VA Techniques

11:15-12:00 p.m. Henry's Taekwon-do

12:00-1:00 Pizza Inn's Pizza Eating Contest

1:00-1:30 Musical Performance by Sasha

1:30-2:00 Wolf's Den Martial Arts

2:00-2:30 Mike Petersen's Kempo Karate School

2:30-3:00 New River Valley Highland Dancers

3:00-3:30 Sapphire Ballroom

3:30-4:30 Recorded Music

“We have more vendors, more activities and lots more food compared to year’s past,” noted Adams. “We hope everyone will come out and enjoy a day of family-oriented events.”
