Roanoke Police Department Begins Extra Traffic Enforcement

The Roanoke Police Department has begun its increased traffic enforcement in preparation for the holiday season. As a result of the increased enforcement, officers working on November 6, 2007 wrote 109 traffic summonses for various violations. The department is enforcing traffic safety laws with zero tolerance in an effort to decrease crashes as drivers travel during the holiday season. The officers are focusing on DUI, aggressive driving, and safety belt and child safety seat violations.

Roanoke Police Department Investigates Home Invasion

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on November 6, 2007. Officers responded at 9:53 a.m. to a residence on Marr Street. The victim stated that he woke up to find the suspect in his home.

Blacksburg Planning And Zoning Appeals Meets Today PDF Print E-mail

The Blacksburg Planning and Zoning Appeals will be holding a meeting this afternoon starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Town Council Conference Room at the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street, Blacksburg, to hear two appeal projects.

The Planning and Building Department has received an appeal of a Zoning Administrator determination regarding development rights for property located at 1776 Liberty Lane. The property is located in the Southeast sector of town in the 200 block of Fairfax Road. The appeal has been submitted on behalf of Cascades Pointe of Blacksburg, LLC. At issue development rights for property located at 1776 Liberty Lane. The property is located in the Southeast sector of town in the 200 block of Fairfax Road.

The next Appeal regards 915 Allendale Court – Request for Variance to the Zoning Ordinance, Section 3042 (b)(2), Minimum Side Yard Setback in the Low Density Residential (R-4) Zoning District. The Planning and Building Department has received a request for a variance to the minimum side yard setback at 915 Allendale Court. The required minimum side yard setback in the R-4 district is ten (10) feet.
 
Local citizens who have an interest in these two projects should use this forum to give their opinion. The hearing starts with the applicant making a short presentation as to why the appeals board should approve these projects. A planning and zoning staff report will then be heard by the board, following by the concerned citizens wishing to speak. Planning and zoning issues more often than not bring about strong emotions and ideas from citizens of the community. These are issues that affect the whole community.
